Tesna is basically an affluent of Cerna River flowing across the Herculane region. The elders might still remember the time when the border between Austro-Hungary and Romania used to run along here. As you come out of the Herculane the first thing your eyes will behold along the path near the Roman Hotel is the path leading up towards the Den of Thieves (Cave of Thieves).

All further locations mentioned above can be accessed from the main road in Cerna Valley. Join us for a pleasant trip along Cerna Valley across Baile Herculane going as far as Tesnei Valley.

Clearings and waters

Right next to the electric works you will find a path climbing upwards to a clearing called Saua Padinei. The journey is about two and a half hours long and it ends in between the peaks of Hurcu and Suscu. Turn the right and continue your journey towards the Musuroaie clearing where you can take the Herculane-Podeni track. Follow the river side of Cerna and pass by a little zone called the “cataract”, a beautiful sight with rocks and white foam (Bobot Waterfall). Go further, following the signs and reach the point of “Porumbu”, the location of the ‘seven hot springs’.

Picturesque locations

If you walk in the direction against the current at a distance of about 1 kilometer you will find the Cross of Gizelle well, at least what is left of it, however the rocky location where it once stood overlooks a spectacular view of Cerna Valley. Until now you’ve crossed only a few small springs but later on you will arrive to the Ogasu Cosiului, a resting place near the main road. On the left hand side there is a small stream flowing across the clearing, then heading towards the marked path leading towards Gornenti. The journey to this location takes about three to four hours.

Peaceful landscapes

About 8-9 kilometers from Herculane you will enter a zone dominated with authority. On the right side of the road there are the limy walls of the Inelet, tied up and held back in order to not fall on the main road, make damage and block traffic. On the corner you will find the well known karstic springs called the ‘seven cold springs’. On the other side of the Cerna River peaceful residents of the valley gather leaves for their animals. 14,6 kilometers more and you will reach the Tesna Bridge and next to it the contour of a path coming from Cosustei Valley crossing charming places and beautiful parts of a pass.
