The resort was constructed and developed in 1838 on a previously existent wooden construction from 1792. The first establishment had 16 cabins and 4 basins made out of red marble. The water was cooled down and accumulated in two basins and the waiting room had a fountain for internal cures.

When building the new resort the builders kept 4 cabins and the 2 basins of the former construction. From the basin in the south you can admire a statue of Hercules sculpted in a cliff which is a legacy left here by the Romans. During the restoration in 1724-37 several signs were found which denote the fact that the spring was used by the Romans. Together with the Roman bath another fountain was constructed called the Spring of Healing. Today this spring gives place to the springs of Hygeea and II Hercules.
