An authentic tour around Transylvania, Maramures

Join us for a one week tour around Maramures during which you will be able to visit some of the legendary locations of Transylvania. Listen to stories about life and death, history, places of worship and silent, agglomerated and cold places. Admire the monumental scenery, breath in the fresh air and the medieval atmosphere. Thus tourists will get more than expected from the coffin vampire count: authenticity.

Discover the Romanian traditions rooted in Maramures. During the seven days of this your you will visit several major cities such as Calimantesti, Curtea de Arges, Sibiu, Alba Iulia, Sighisoara, Brasov and many others.

Day 1 – Calimanesti and Curtea de Arges

On the first day of the tour you will set out and head towards Putestu, Curtea de Arges and Calimanest. Along the way you will cross through the Carpathian Mountains over Olt Valley. Accommodation will be provided in a 3 or 4 star hotel in Sibiu. The city of Calimanesti has the enchanting atmosphere of a silently agglomerated urban settlement.

Here you will visit Cozia Monastery where several monks, poets and writers have found inspiration, researchers found answers and tourists have visited for more than 600 years. On the other hand Curtea de Arges, which a long time ago has been the capital of Walachia, is a modest but authentic town as it has been inhabited since ancient times. The most outstanding touristic landmark is the Monastery of Curtea de Arges to which the legend of the Master Manole is connected. Find out more about the background story along the journey.

Day 2 – Sibiu and Alba Iulia

Enjoy breakfast in Sibiu after which you will set out to see a few important attractions around town then head towards Alba Iulia. In Sibiu you will visit the town square where hundreds of years ago stood the “cage of fools”. Also you will visit the Catholic Church and the Bridge of Lies.

The city is filled with culture and history and rich in beauty. All these define Alba Iulia as the symbol of past, representing the Romanian spirit which existed yesterday, still does today and hopefully will the future. The most important landmark here is the Cathedral of Saint Michael which is considered the most valuable monument of medieval architecture in Transylvania.

Day 3 – Surdesti and Sapanta

After a rich breakfast you will head towards Maramures stopping on the way at the Wooden Church of Surdersti and the Merry Cemetery in Sapanta. Renowned worldwide, adored nationwide the Merry Cemetery is distinguished by the colorful crosses, naive paintings illustrating scenes from the life and customs of the people buried here.

Day 4-5 – Sighisoara and Brasov

At Sighisoara you will visit the local fortress and all its extensions. The most amazing landmark in Brasov is the famous Black Church of which you can read more on this site.

Day 6 – Bran Castle and Sinaia

Surely you have heard a lot already about the most famous vampire, Count Dracula whose name is connected to Bran Castle. You will have to chance to visit personally the named location and see where the legend of Dracula was born. In Sinaia you will visit another castle called Peles Castle which has fabulously decorated interior designs in all kinds of different architectonical styles such as French Rococo or German Renaissance.

Day 7 – travelling back home.
